About Cordwell
Cordwell publishes free calculators and plain-English guides for the money decisions people and small businesses make most: pay, taxes, borrowing, buying a home, saving for retirement and running a company.
What we believe
A number is only useful if you understand it and know what to do next. So every Cordwell calculator comes with the formula behind it, the official sources for every figure, an explanation of what your result means, and practical ways to improve it.
How we're different
- We use figures published by the agencies that set them, such as the IRS, the Social Security Administration and the Texas Comptroller, and we link to them on every page.
- Calculations run in your browser. Cordwell doesn't receive or store the numbers you enter.
- We show our work. If a rule is simplified, the page says so.
How we're funded
Cordwell is free to use and supported by advertising. Ads are always labeled, and advertisers have no say in what we write or how calculators work.
